BULGARIA:
Fortune-tellers and sorcerers held sway over Marjan’s life. He hardly knew his parents when he was growing up. His mother worked abroad and his father was in prison. As a young boy, Marjan divided his time between a grandmother’s house and the streets.

A life of no good
“Everyone in my town knew I was no good,” the 29-year-old says today. Though he acted tough, fear and uncertainty were at the very root of his existence. Looking to fortune-tellers and sorcerers for help, he fell deeper into despair.

Then God’s Spirit intervened. “An elderly woman came to help care for my sick grandmother,” he explains. “She began to tell me about the Savior. The pastor of her church (which partners with Bible League) and his wife also came to our home.”

They shared God’s Word with him and answered the many questions that troubled the young man’s soul.

A changed man
Marjan was coming to faith in Jesus Christ, but evil spirits still lurked within.

“Pastor Kuncho prayed for me and tore apart any magic that I made or that had been made against me,” says Marjan. “Then we prayed together for the presence of the Lord to be over my house and in my soul.”

Marjan recalls the day he was “baptized in water and with the Spirit.” He says, “I felt God’s warm presence fill me and clean me.”

Marjan continues, “God has driven fear and uncertainty from my heart. Now there’s only room for joy and blessings. Just as He has forgiven me, I now forgive my enemies. That did not happen before I was a believer.”
